The year 2012 marks the majestic year of the Dragon–the 5th animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. And it is a big year for the Chinese, especially here in Bacolod City!

That is because, we celebrate the Chinese New Year with the Bacolaodiat Festival! And this year, it is going to be from January 20-23, 2012.

And the three of us–my husband, daughter and I–ventured into Lacson Street. By the way, this street, along with the North Capitol Road, is closed for the three-day occasion.

We just had fun walking along the street, taking pictures, and looking at the wares around us. We were not able to see the show at the end of the North Capitol Road because there were a lot of people and we had Dindin with us.

Tomorrow, hopefully, we can venture there at the Chopsticks Alley and eat Chinese food.

What is Bacolaodiat?
The Bacolaodiat Festival is a Chinese New Year festival that is unique to Bacolod City. Now on its 7th year, Bacolaodiat was a new term coined from the words “Bacolod” and “Lao Diat”, which is a Fookien word that means “celebration.”

888 Chinatown Square mascots

Dindin enjoyed the company of the mascots of 888 Chinatown Square--Ah-Kiong and Ah-Hwa. She thought that the girl mascot was Kai Lan.

Bacolod chicken inasal

Although there is a Chopsticks Alley for Chinese food, the Bacolod chicken inasal will never be absent in celebrations like these.
