The glorious Costa Concordia before the accident.
Many people enjoy going on a cruise. This is one of the things that I would like to do while I am still young. I wanted to go even on a few-day cruise in Florida but which I failed to do. And it is one of my deepest desires to be able to do so in a few years, maybe just around Asia, if not the Caribbean.
That is why I am really saddened with what happened with Costa Concordia and a number of its passengers. Everything is pending investigation at this point, but early reports say that the accident was mainly human error–that of Captain Francesco Schettino.
In the first place, he allowed the ship to sail very near the sandbar on the island of Giglio in Italy. And when the ship hit land and started to tilt, the captain was reportedly still waiting for his drink to be served in the restaurant, as he was dating a brunette. And to top it all off, he was the first one to abandon ship. Schettino is now facing charges of manslaughter.
It is really sad when a dream vacation turns into a nightmare. But it does not stop me from dreaming of going on a cruise someday. After all, not all cruises are the same. One man’s error does not reflect all hard and good work of the rest of the captains of ships.
A Lovely Mediterranean Cruise
The Costa Concordia is a Concordia-class ship that is owned and operated by Costa Cruises. The ship had sailed last Friday from the Civitavecchia port near Rome. It was due to dock in Marseille after stops in Sicily, Sardinia and Spain.

This is one very unfortunate accident. The captain was such a coward leaving all those passengers and crew behind.
sigh…it sure is.
