Sniffing Dogs at the Cebu 2Go Ferry Terminal

sniffing dogs

A sniffing dog at work at the Cebu 2Go Ferry Pier 4 pre-departure area.

My brother and I took the ferry from Cebu City to Tagbilaran City in Bohol. We were to take the 2Go Ferry at the Cebu Pier 4. At the pre-departure of the pier, we were asked to have our luggage scanned.

And the next sight stalled me–there were two big dogs! Honestly, I am not very fond of dogs…okay…scared, actually so when the police signaled for me to move forward, I mumbled something about having to wait for my brother who was still packing his camera for the scanner.

After that, the men in uniform asked us to line up our bags while we watched and he let one dog sniff all of them. I am not sure what the dogs were looking for because the bags already underwent scanning but I think it is great to know that the port is taking extra procedures like this for security. The dogs may be creating some foul smell in the area but I think that is a small inconvenience for the help that they are giving.

Now our bags were cleared, we were asked to proceed one by one to what looked like an immigration counter. Our tickets were scanned one by one and recorded into a computer while our pictures were being taken. Cool, huh?

I think it is good that we these measures in place. While we know that we are not entirely safe wherever we are and it is only in God’s hands that we are, it is just nice to see all these security measures in place so that the plans of bad elements may be hindered.

The Importance of Having Business Insurance

If you are a business owner, then you would understand how important a business insurance is for you. But if not, then you will have to read on.

The insurance coverage for your business is meant to protect you as the owner in the event of misfortunes that could lead to a financial collapse. You could buy a policy so that you can have coverage against fire, theft, force majeure, or other events.

Some business owners insure whatever they think is most important for their business such as, but not limited to, delivery vehicles, equipment, and also the safety of their employees, especially those who are frequently traveling or exposed to harmful chemicals. While traveling on the job may be an exciting possibility, it also poses a lot of risk. And when an employee is injured while on the job, the employer is liable to pay for damages, which is the reason why a policy for travel insurance should be in place.

There are many kinds of business insurance but the bottom line is protection. Some people think that this is an expense but it could also be tax deductible, so there is really no worry. This is just advantageous to the owner.

You can always ask a trusted agent or read information about different types of business insurance and what can work for you.

Magellan’s Cross in Cebu

Magellan's Cross

Magellan's Cross

Because of our trip delay, we decided to take the cab to a very historic place in Cebu City–the Magellan’s Cross on Magallanes Street, just across the Cebu City Hall.

We know there was not much to see there except the chapel with the cross but it is a dream come true for us to just be there.

Here is a description from Wikipedia:

Magellan’s Cross is a Christian cross planted by Portuguese, and Spanish explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu in the Philippines on (depending on source) April 14 or 21, 1521. This cross is housed in a chapel next to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño on Magallanes Street (Magallanes being the Spanish name of Magellan), just in front of the city hall of Cebu City. A sign below the cross describes the original cross is encased inside the wooden cross that is found in the center of the chapel. This is to protect the original cross from people who chipped away parts of the cross for souvenir purposes or in the belief that the cross possesses miraculous powers. Some people, however, believe that the original cross had been destroyed or had disappeared after Magellan’s death, and the cross is a replica that was planted there by the Spaniards after they successfully colonized the Philippines.

There were women selling candles in the area because I was told that people lit up candles to venerate the cross–or something like that. But they also offered to take pictures for extra income. We had out photo taken and we gave the lady P10. There were also many young children selling anything from key chains to magnets to pearl jewelry–all Cebu souvenirs. There were also some carved wooden images for the devotees. And since it was a really hot day, many people were selling cold bottled water to anyone who needs a drink.
