Panagbenga in Baguio City — 2012 Schedule Highlights

Used to be known as the Baguio Flower Festival, the Panagbenga Festival is a big annual festival held in Baguio City–the summer capital of the Philippines. It usually runs for the entire month of February.

“Panagbenga” is a term that is of Malayo-Polynesian origin, which means “season of blooming”. Since Baguio City is the supplier of fresh blooms to most of the Philippine cities, the festival is then of course, a tribute to the city’s colorful flowers and its massive production in their many flower farms.

The highlight of the Panagbenga festival is a street parade that includes floats are decorated with fresh flowers. There is also street dancing and other eco-tourism projects.

This is a festival that I would like to experience someday. I love flowers! Will I get a bouquet of flowers for Valentine’s Day? Hmmm…It remains to be seen.
